How to Fly a Flag on Your Camper

Until recently, I did not realize how easy it is to set-up a flagpole on the bumper of a camper. We are now able to proudly fly the American flag when visiting campgrounds. A positive aspect of connecting the flagpole to a bumper is that it doesn’t require the use of any storage space. Our total cost was less than $100 on Amazon to purchase our supplies. Now we proudly fly our flag at each campground that we visit.

How to Attach a Flagpole to Your Camper Bumper

We attached the flag to the bumper of our travel trailer using a flagpole hitch. To do this, we completed the following steps:

We first attached a hitch receiver (Check it out on Amazon) to our camper bumper. The receiver mounts easily, and since the pole is very light, there are no concerns about how much weight your bumper can bear.

We then inserted a hitch-mount flagpole holder (Check it out on Amazon) into the hitch receiver.

Next, we placed a telescoping flagpole (Check it out on Amazon) in the flagpole holder. The diameter of our flagpole is quite a bit smaller than the holder, so we stuffed a piece of aluminum foil in the holder to keep the flagpole in place.

All that is left is to attach the flag and raise the flagpole.

Attaching Your Flag

One of the great things about this set-up is that we can travel with the camper flagpole in place and ready to go. When we arrive at the campground, all that is left to do is attach the flag. Make sure that your pole extends well above your camper so that the flag does not whip against the RV when it is windy. We also attach our cellphone booster (see our article on cellphone boosters) to the flagpole to maximize our internet reception.

Flying a flag at the campground is simple and easy to do. Do you have suggestions for mounting an RV or travel trailer flagpole? We would love to hear from you! Drop us a line in the comment section below.
