We recently visited Punderson State Park in northeastern Ohio’s town of Newbury. The park is centrally located 30 minutes from Lake Erie, 45 minutes south of Cleveland, and 45 minutes north of Cuyahoga National Park.

Amenities at Punderson State Park Campground
Punderson State Park Campground has many amenities. There is a large lake for fishing and a sandy beach area for swimming. Take a few minutes to visit the nature center. The park has an archery range and a golf course. There is a pool located at the Punderson Manor Lodge. The lodge also has a heated indoor pool that is only available for cabin and lodge guests. However, you can purchase a day pass to access the pool if staying at the campground.

Favorite Sites at Punderson State Park Campground
None of the sites at the Punderson State Park Campground sit directly on the lake, but several sites have a lake view. Our favorite site was site 16. Site 16 is a full hookup site with a lovely water view. It is shaded, and the area where the firepit is located is relatively private.

Description of Punderson State Park Campground
Punderson State Park is a nice campground with plenty of amenities. Most campsites are shady and fairly private. Sites 1 and 2 are a little odd because they are located near the camp store parking lot, but they are away from the rest of the campground. Several sites have a lake view. Sites 3, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 15, 16, 17, and 18 are all full hookup sites with views of the water.

Things To Do Near Punderson State Park Campground
We really liked the location of the Punderson State Park Campground. It is conveniently located near Cleveland attractions and Cuyahoga Valley National Park. You can also travel to the middle of beautiful Amish Country in Berlin within two hours.
The beaches at Fairport Harbor and Headlands State Park are 30 minutes away in Mentor, Ohio. The beaches are beautiful but a little rocky, especially the beach at Headlands State Park, so we recommend you bring water shoes (Check them out on Amazon).

The James A. Garfield National Historic Site is a 30-minute drive and located near Mentor’s beaches.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Christmas Story House are recommended and are less than a 45-minute drive from the campground in Cleveland.

The Boston Mill Visitor Center at Cuyahoga Valley National Park is less than a 45-minute drive. Cuyahoga Valley National Park is a unique national park with many areas to explore. There are great hiking and biking trails along the Erie and Ohio Canal Towpath.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame is only an hour’s drive south of Punderson State Park Campground in Canton. While in Canton, you can also visit the First Ladies National Historic Site.
When we are in this region of Ohio, we love to visit the Amish Country (click here to read an article about one of our previous visits to the area). The area is beautiful, and the Amish home-cooked meals are delicious. Be sure to stop by and stock up on all the delicious cheeses, meats, and baked goods produced in this area. We recommend Heine’s Cheese Chalet, Troyer Meats, and Kaufmann’s Country Bakery.

When traveling in northeastern Ohio, Punderson State Park Campground is an excellent choice that we highly recommend here at Campers and Campfires. Maybe we will see you there!
