Jekyll Island Campground

We have stayed at Jekyll Island Campground multiple times. The campground is located on the Georgia coast. Jekyll Island is one of our favorite places to visit. There are plenty of unique attractions on the island that make it a fun place to vacation.

Amenities at Jekyll Island Campground

Jekyll Island Campground is within walking distance from Driftwood Beach and Clam Creek. Driftwood is one of the most beautiful and photographed beaches in the world.

There is a general store for your camping needs. They have bike rentals available as well.

Free wifi is available throughout the campground. There is a laundry facility on-site.

A bird sanctuary is located at the campground too.

Favorite Sites at Jekyll Island Campground

The Jekyll Island campground has a variety of large, small, back-in, and pull-through sites. However, several sections have sites that are pretty close together. The T-section is newer, and most of the sites in this area are pull-throughs with a little more space but not as much shade as the rest of the campground. Our favorite site in this area is T-12, a large pull-through with both privacy and shade. Another favorite is H-7A. It is a large back-in site with plenty of shade, and it is larger than most sites in that area. The pull-throughs in sections H and G are large, but many are close to each other.

Description of Jekyll Island Campground

Jekyll Island Campground is located on 18 acres, and nearly every site is surrounded by trees and vegetation, which is nice when visiting in the summer. There are 167 full hookups and an additional 12 primitive campground sites. Many of the campsites are relatively close together, and some are not very long. Double-check the length of the site to ensure your rig will fit before making your reservation.

All RV sites (besides the 12 primitives) at Jekyll Island Campground are full hookup sites and include water, electricity, sewer, and cable. 30 and 50 amp electric is available.

Jekyll Island Campground does not participate in any discount programs.

Tips for Staying at Jekyll Island Campground

There is a fee for entering Jekyll Island. It is $8.00 per vehicle and $12.00 for oversize vehicles. I am unsure what they classify as an oversized vehicle. We were charged $8.00 recently when pulling our travel trailer.

Things To Do Near Jekyll Island Campground

One reason we love Jekyll is that even though it is a small Island, it has a lot of history and many things to do.

There are extensive bike paths throughout the island, and you can get anywhere you would like to go by riding your bike. We bring our electric bikes along for the adventure. Click here to read more about riding electric bikes while you are camping.

There is a lot of history surrounding Jekyll Island, and we recommend taking the Golden Isles Carriage Tour (read more about our carriage tour) to learn more about the island. The Jekyll Island Club purchased the island in 1886. The wealthiest men in the world were Jekyll Island Club members and used to come here to vacation. Among the members were JP Morgan, William Rockefeller, and Joseph Pulitzer. Though there were only 100 members of the Jekyll Island Club, they controlled 1/6^th of the world’s wealth. We also took a dolphin tour (click here to read more about our tour), which was a lot of fun. In addition to seeing some dolphins, we learned how the water surrounding the island played a significant role in developing the Jekyll Island Club as the tour guide recounted much of the island’s history. We also enjoyed horseback riding (read more about our experience) at Driftwood Beach. We took the Golden Isles horseback riding tour, and it was the first time our children and been on a horse. Everyone had a great time. The tour starts at Clam Creek, and you travel along a path to the beach. Book a horseback riding tour.

The Georgia Sea Turtle Center is located on Jekyll Island. The Georgia Sea Turtle Center is one of the coolest places we have had the opportunity to visit. It is an actual rehabilitation center, so you can see the rehabilitation process in practice when you visit.

For those who like summer fun, Summer Waves is a water park on Jekyll Island with a lazy river, splash pad, and plenty of slides.

There are several beaches on Jekyll Island. The most famous is Driftwood Beach, located within walking distance of the campground. Driftwood is a beautiful beach, and we highly recommend visiting it for its natural beauty. Driftwood Beach is also an excellent location to take family pictures. There are numerous other beaches with ample parking, such as Oceanview Beach Park and Great Dunes Beach Park.

Favorite Restaurants Near Jekyll Island Campground

Excellent food is not difficult to find on Jekyll. I do not believe we have ever eaten a bad meal on the island.

The Driftwood Bistro (read more about the Driftwood Bistro) is an island favorite. The Driftwood Bistro is known for its seafood excellence and southern comfort foods.

One of our favorites is the Sunrise Grill (read more about the Sunrise Grille). The Sunrise Grille is one of the few places to get an excellent breakfast and a wonderful lunch or dinner. They have a diverse menu. Our favorites were the scallops we ate for dinner and the breakfast French toast.

Another favorite is the Love Shack. Do not let the fact that it is inside the Jekyll Market fool you. They have delicious food. They serve BBQ, chicken, and shrimp. The fried shrimp is some of the best around the area.

One of our new favorites is McGarvey’s Wee Pub. The Wee Pub has a diverse menu offering burgers, sandwiches, chicken strips, and seafood. The food was great, but the hand-breaded chicken strips were some of the best chicken strips we have ever eaten.

Jekyll Island Campground is a great getaway location for those that like the beach. The island is not as busy as many of the more touristy beaches on the Georgia coast. In addition to the beach, there are several other activities and great restaurants, which make staying at Jekyll the perfect vacation spot.
