Sites 18, 19, and 20 are full hookup back-in sites. They are long and very wide, with lots of privacy between sites.
Description of Munising/Pictured Rocks KOA
The Munising/Pictured Rocks KOA is beautiful. There is a lot of shade from a thick mature canopy of trees throughout the campground. Our favorite area of the campground was near the rear with back-in sites. Most sites are water/electric only, but they are large and very private.
We stayed in a full hookup pull-through site that was very nice, but we would request a full hookup back-in site next time. The pull-through sites have shared utilities. Every other camper pulls in the opposite direction to ensure that the electric hookup is on the campers’ correct side. This setup creates a buddy site effect, which is excellent if you are camping with friends, but not so great otherwise. The campers face each other, so you have a lot of shared space with no privacy. Our firepits were about 10 feet apart, making it challenging to spend family time outside.

The Munising/Pictured Rocks KOA has an assortment of hookups. Many sites have full hookups with electricity, water, sewer, and cable, while others only have water and electricity. There are tent sites with electricity and some with no hookups.

Things To Do Near Munising/Pictured Rocks KOA
Munising is a beautiful city located on Lake Superior. We visited the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. There are beach areas as well as scenic overlooks situated within the park. Some of the highlights within the park are Miners Castle, Miners Falls, and Sand Point Beach.
We also completed a scenic Pictured Rocks Tour. The tour was excellent and highly recommended. We did the Spray Falls tour, which lasted about 2 hours. While in the area, you should stop and have a pasty. Authentic pasties are available at Miners Pasties and Muldoons.
Pasties are a regional food item brought over from England by the miners who came to the upper peninsula to work in the iron ore and copper mines. A pastie is similar to a chicken or beef pot pie, except it is in more of a baked sandwich form rather than a pie. Minced meat or chicken, along with items such as carrots, onions, potatoes, turnips, or rutabaga, is baked in a pastry. They were developed for miners to eat a filling meal with one clean hand.

When we say to stop in the area to have a pasty, we do mean stop. Unfortunately, we were pulled over because I missed a stop sign. Be careful in towns you are unfamiliar with because you might get a light show behind you if not. However, the officer was polite, and we only received a warning.
The Munising/Picture Rocks KOA was a perfect place to lay our head while visiting the area and a campground where we will definitely return again.
