Camp Dearborn Campground

We recently visited Camp Dearborn while vacationing in Milford, Michigan. The campground is 45 minutes from Detroit and 30 minutes from Dearborn, home to the Henry Ford Museum.

Amenities at Camp Dearborn

Camp Dearborn is located on over 600 acres. There are six fishing lakes, a swimming pool, and a sandy beach. In addition, the campground has a golf course and mini-golf. Throughout the summer, the campground has planned activities. Family trivia, softball, and kickball were scheduled during our visit.

Large athletic fields are available to organize just about any activity. There is also a Canteen (concession stand) with snacks, ice, and arcade games; while we were there, they played music each night.

Favorite Sites at Camp Dearborn

Our favorite RV site was site 66. The full hookup sites at Camp Dearborn are similar, with some trees and a decent amount of space between the sites. Each full hookup site was on an asphalt pad. Our favorite was site 66 because it was on an end and had an extra-large side yard.

Activities Near the Campground

Camp Dearborn is located about 30 minutes from The Henry Ford Museum. The museum has three main attractions: the museum itself, Greenfield Village, and the Rouge Factory Tour. If you plan to tour all three, check out their museum membership. It was cheaper to purchase the membership than to pay for each place individually. The membership includes admission to Greenfield Village and the Henry Ford Museum, a 15% discount on the factory tour, and other discounts.

Greenfield Village is a unique attraction. In an effort to save history, Henry Ford moved buildings from around the country to Greenfield Village. Among the relocated properties are the Wright Brothers Bicycle Shop, Edison’s Menlo Park, Noah Webster’s home, and Henry Ford’s childhood home. In addition, you can ride in an original Model T while visiting the village.

The Henry Ford Museum has numerous historical artifacts. An extensive collection of cars includes several presidential limousines and race cars. In addition, the bus where Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat is located in the museum. You can even enter and sit in her seat.

If you like the history of camping as we do, you will find a fantastic display of vintage campers at the museum.

Downtown Detroit is 43 miles away from Camp Dearborn. One of the most popular areas to visit in Detroit is the Riverwalk. The Riverwalk is a revitalized area along the Detroit River. It is a beautiful area full of shopping, dining, and activities. If you are interested in learning more about the area’s history, walking tours take place from May to September on the first Saturday of every month. You can also take a riverboat tour on the river. There are parks and greenspaces along the Riverwalk, perfect for walking and biking.

The Motown Museum was recently refurbished. Stop by and learn about the stories behind some of the most famous musicians in American history. From Detroit, you can cross over into Windsor, Ontario, Canada, on the iconic Ambassador Bridge for a delicious plate of authentic poutine!

The River Raisin National Battlefield Park is about an hour away if you are a history buff. River Raisin was an important battle during the War of 1812 when the American Indian Confederation defeated the United States Army.

Camp Dearborn is a fantastic campground for pure relaxation and when visiting sites in the area. Maybe we will see you there soon!
