Spectacular Views and Fun at Mackinaw Mill Creek Camping

Mackinaw Mill Creek Campground
We recently visited Mackinaw Mill Campground on a camping tour of Michigan. We started in the upper peninsula and worked our south towards Detroit. Mackinaw Mill was one of our favorite stops along the way. Mackinaw Mill Creek Camping is located in Mackinaw City, Michigan, just across Lake Huron from Mackinaw Island.
Amenities at Mackinaw Mill Creek Campground
The amenities at Mackinaw Mill Creek Camping are plentiful. There is a beach area along Lake Huron and a swimming pool. In addition, there are a couple of playgrounds in the campground and a basketball court. Wifi is available throughout the park. In addition to the basic free wifi, Mackinaw Mill offers a premium wifi package that provides enough bandwidth for streaming.
They have bikes available to rent and 2-4 person Surrey’s available. These look like an old Model T, but you peddle them instead. The four-person model also has an electric motor for when you get tired of peddling.
Mackinaw Mill has one of the most excellent camp stores we have ever seen, with almost anything you need or want while camping. They have fresh donuts, biscuits, and coffee at the camp store in the morning. Food items such as chicken strips and pizzas are also available for lunch and dinner. In addition, there is a food truck located outside the camp store.
The Star Lines Ferry has a shuttle stop at the campground that will take you directly to the Mackinac Island Ferry. The shuttle has a utility trailer hooked, so you can bring your bikes on the shuttle if you want to take them to the island.
Favorite Sites at Mackinaw Mill Creek Campground
When you go to the Mackinaw Mill website to begin booking a site, you will see that they offer a wide variety of combinations so that you can choose the best option for you. Our favorite sites in the park are the standard electric/water lake view sites. The view of Lake Huron and Mackinac Island is spectacular. These sites do not have sewer hookups, but the scenery and location along the shore of Lake Huron more than make up for the lack of a sewer connection. If a sewer connection is a must, there are full hookup bridge view sites with a view of the lake and the Mackinac Bridge.
We prefer the view from the standard lake view sites, but either is beautiful. We were in site 188, which was long and relatively private with shade. There was also a nice swing directly in front of the site.
Description of Mackinaw Mill Creek Campground
Mackinaw Mill Creek Camping is a large campground with lakefront and interior sites. There is plenty of room between sites, with enough vegetation between sites to provide shade and privacy.
Hookups at Mackinaw Mill Creek Campground
The hookups available at Mackinaw Mill Creek Camping vary throughout the campground. They have water/electric RV sites and RV sites with water/electric and sewer. They also have non-electric sites.
Discounts at Mackinaw Mill Creek Campground
Mackinaw Mill Creek Campground does not currently participate in any discount programs.
Things To Do Near Mackinaw Mill Creek Campground
Mackinaw City is less than 5 miles away and has many local shopping and eating locations.
You can also go by ferry from Mackinaw City to Mackinac Island. Mackinac Island is unique and beautiful. There are no vehicles on the island. Instead, there are three basic transportation methods: foot, bike, and horse. You can bring your bike on the ferry. Bikes are the way most people get around the Island. Carriage tours are also available. Once on the island, there are several locations to visit, such as the Grand Hotel and Fort Mackinac.
Mackinaw Mill Creek Campground offered probably the best view we have ever had while camping, and the campground was spectacular. We will definitely return to Mackinaw Mill.
